Meet The Team SHEQ manager James Kirman

Meet the Team at Allied Protek – James Kirman

Meet The Team at Allied Protek

At Allied Protek, we’re proud of the quality and standards we maintain for the engineering industry. We commit to continuous improvement of our Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) procedures, to ensure we consistently satisfy our clients’ expectations through the products and services we deliver.

For this month’s “Meet the Team” blog, we sat down with our SHEQ Manager, James Kirman, to talk about his role and how he promotes safe working practices. Initially from an armed forces and engineering background, James moved into a Health and Safety role early in his career. He also specialises in coaching, having delivered many safety courses and training within the company.

What do you do at Allied Protek?
Working alongside the whole of Allied Protek, I am a familiar face both in the workshops and on-site. My role is to ensure that the products and services we deliver meet the highest standards and that all our workforce is operating safely and in accordance with our company procedures.

How did you get started in Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Management?
I naturally progressed into the SHEQ department at a previous employer, gaining qualifications in the relevant departments as my experiences grew. I enjoy the challenge that the role entails and I’m very pro-active, which makes it a perfect position for me.

What’s been the most challenging part of your role?
Joining any business and learning the way their management systems work is always going to be a challenge. However, I’ve done this before and made improvements along the way. The next challenge for me will be completing my NEBOSH Diploma and moving forward with my BSc in Safety and Environmental Management. Wish me luck!

What do you like about working at Allied Protek?
I like the variety that Allied Protek brings. One minute, I will be carrying out an audit in our workshop and consulting with our workforce, to ensure the safety and quality of work is of the highest standard. The next, I may be visiting a site manager who is running a project for one of our many clients.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and socialising with friends. You may also recognise me from different events, as outside of work I’m a professional magician and regularly perform all over the UK and abroad.
